Schrijver Nisma Alaklouk besloot in 2013 na een literair evenement in Brussel te blijven plakken.
Muzikant en horeca-uitbater Bassel Abou Fakher liet zijn hond Stella overkomen uit Syrië om hem te vervoegen in de Belgische hoofdstad.
En taalleerkracht en dichter Maja Ulasik besloot enkele jaren geleden Polen in te ruilen voor Elsene.
Brussel is de plaats bij uitstek waar mensen aanspoelen, waar niemand en iedereen thuis is en waar nieuwe verhalen worden geschreven in vele talen.
Tijdens deze literaire wandeling zetten we twee boeken in de kijker: ‘Saving Stella’, over hoe een hond ontsnapt aan de Syrische oorlog, en ‘Brusselse vrouwen’, over vijf vrouwen met een link naar het Midden-Oosten die hun plek zoeken in de stad en in het leven. Schrijver Nisma Alaklouk vertelt en leest voor uit haar boek ‘Brusselse vrouwen’ in het Arabisch en Nederlands, Maja Ułasik schrijft speciaal een gedicht over thuiskomen en Bassel Abou Fakher nodigt ons uit in zijn Stella Coffee Bar. Writer Nisma Alaklouk decided to stick around in Brussels after a literary event in 2013.
Musician and bar owner Bassel Abou Fakher had his dog Stella come over from Syria to join him in the Belgian capital.
And a few years ago language teacher and poet Maja Ulasik exchanged Poland for Ixelles.
Brussels is the place par excellence where people drift ashore, where no one and everyone is at home and where new stories are written in many languages.
During this literary walk we highlight two books: 'Saving Stella', about a dog escaping the Syrian war, and 'Brusselse vrouwen’, about five women with a link to the Middle East who find their way in the city and through life. Writer Nisma Alaklouk talks and reads from her book 'Brusselse vrouwen' in Arabic and Dutch, Maja Ułasik writes a poem for this occasion about homecoming and Bassel Abou Fakher invites us to his Stella Coffee Bar.
