The Way Back Home is een participatieve workshop onder leiding van de Spaanse kunstenaar Bea Lema en de Iraanse dichter en kunstenaar Haleh Chinikar. Samen verkennen zij met de deelnemers de vele betekenissen van ‘thuis’.
Via ademhalingsoefeningen, herinneringen, poëtische expressie, beweging en borduurwerk nodigen zij je uit om stil te staan bij persoonlijke en collectieve reizen van toebehoren. Al doende weven jullie verhalen en sensaties tot een tastbare, gedeelde kaart die het idee van thuis op een intieme én collectieve manier verbeeldt.
De voertaal van deze workshop is Engels. Vertaling in het Nederlands, Frans of Spaans is mogelijk. Je hoeft niets mee te nemen, er wordt ook avondeten voorzien voor alle deelnemers.
Over de kunstenaars
De Spaanse illustrator en stripmaker Bea Lema verweeft borduur- en weeftechnieken met haar autobiografische beeldverhalen. In 2024 won haar graphic novel 'El cuerpo de Cristo' won de publieksprijs van het Angoulême Comics Festival.
De in Iran geboren en sinds 2007 in Brussel wonende kunstenaar en dichter Haleh Chinikar verweeft lichaam, geheugen, taal en textiel in installaties en performances die het publiek actief betrekken.
Over Europalia España
Europalia viert dit najaar zijn 30ste editie. Veertig jaar na de eerste Spaanse editie brengt het festival opnieuw een grootschalig, multidisciplinair programma dat erfgoed en hedendaagse kunst samenbrengt en nieuwe perspectieven opent op wat ons verbindt en uitdaagt.

EN – Imagine 'home' in word and thread. The Way Back Home is a participatory workshop led by Spanish artist Bea Lema and Iranian poet and artist Haleh Chinikar. Together with the participants, they explore the many meanings of 'home'.
Through breathing exercises, memories, poetic expression, movement, and embroidery, they invite you to reflect on personal and collective journeys of belonging. Along the way, you will weave stories and sensations into a tangible, shared map that portrays the idea of home in both an intimate and collective way.
The working language of this workshop is English. Translation into Dutch, French, or Spanish is available. You don’t need to bring anything, dinner will also be provided for all participants.
About the artists
The Spanish illustrator and comic book author Bea Lema weaves embroidery and textile techniques into her autobiographical visual narratives. In 2024, her graphic novel 'El cuerpo de Cristo' won the Audience Award at the Angoulême Comics Festival.
Born in Iran and living in Brussels since 2007, artist and poet Haleh Chinikar intertwines body, memory, language, and textiles in installations and performances that actively engage the audience.

FR – Donnez forme au « chez soi » par les mots et le fil. The Way Back Home est un atelier participatif animé par l’artiste espagnole Bea Lema et la poète et artiste iranienne Haleh Chinikar. Ensemble, ils explorent avec les participant·es les multiples significations du mot « maison ».
À travers des exercices de respiration, des souvenirs, l’expression poétique, le mouvement et la broderie, ils vous invitent à réfléchir aux parcours personnels et collectifs de l’appartenance. Ce faisant, vous tisserez des récits et des sensations en une carte tangible et partagée qui donne forme à l’idée de maison, de manière à la fois intime et collective.
La langue de travail de cet atelier est l’anglais. Une traduction en néerlandais, français ou espagnol est possible. Vous n'avez rien à apporter et un dîner sera offert à tous les participants.

L’illustratrice et autrice de bande dessinée espagnole Bea Lema intègre des techniques de broderie et de tissage dans ses récits visuels autobiographiques. En 2024, son roman graphique « El cuerpo de Cristo »a remporté le Prix du Public au Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d’Angoulême.
Née en Iran et installée à Bruxelles depuis 2007, l’artiste et poète Haleh Chinikar entremêle corps, mémoire, langue et textile dans des installations et performances qui impliquent activement le public.

ES – Imagina 'el hogar' en palabra e hilo. The Way Back Home es un taller participativo dirigido por la artista española Bea Lema y la poeta y artista iraní Haleh Chinikar. Junto con los participantes, exploran los múltiples significados de 'hogar'.
A través de ejercicios de respiración, recuerdos, expresión poética, movimiento y bordado, invitan a reflexionar sobre los viajes personales y colectivos de pertenencia. De este modo, se tejen relatos y sensaciones en un mapa tangible y compartido que representa la idea de hogar de una manera íntima y colectiva.
El idioma de trabajo de este taller es el inglés. La traducción al neerlandés, francés o español es posible. No es necesario llevar nada, ya que se proporcionará la cena a todos los participantes.

La ilustradora y autora de cómic española Bea Lema entrelaza técnicas de bordado y tejido en sus relatos visuales autobiográficos. En 2024, su novela gráfica 'El cuerpo de Cristo' recibió el Premio del Público en el Festival Internacional de Cómic de Angulema.
